Bethesda took an unusual move for a major game studio. It responded to negative Steam reviews of its sci-fi RPG Starfield on the platform. Emphasizing that they put a lot of effort into the game, the company did not ignore the criticism.
Bethesda responded to those who didn’t like Starfield
Starfield has been a huge commercial success since its launch in November. The sci-fi game is available for Xbox and PC, but has been receiving mixed reviews from gamers. On Steam, it currently has a ‘Mixed’ review rating. Let us also remind you that it was not nominated for the Game Awards.
Instead of ignoring the criticism, Bethesda’s support team responded to the one-star reviews on Steam. In this way, it tried to address players’ complaints and encourage them to give the game another chance.
In one response, for example, Bethesda told a player who called Starfield “generally boring” that they have a variety of gameplay systems, including crafting, combat, and character progression. Experimenting with different character builds can provide a new gameplay experience.
Long loading screens, which are common in Bethesda’s games, were also at the center of criticism. However, the company said that loading screens are inevitable and allow for smooth playback of a wide range of content.
The responses to criticism are unusual for a publisher the size of Bethesda. But it’s not a first for the studio. The company also responded to criticism for Fallout 76, which received mixed reviews when it launched in 2018.
