Boston Dynamics’ HD Atlas robot is still fresh in our minds, with videos of developers mercilessly kicking it. Now, before the seat of the previous model even cools down, the new Atlas robot has emerged. Here are the features of the new Atlas robot.
Replacing the HD Atlas robot with the new Atlas robot and its features
After being sold to Hyundai, Boston Dynamics entered a much faster development process. The long-running HD Atlas project has been put on hold in this regard. While the old HD Atlas robot provided significant improvements for the new Atlas robot, it was quite cumbersome for a robot. The new Atlas, on the other hand, looks like it came straight out of a science fiction movie, at least in terms of appearance.
Boston Dynamics hasn’t shared information about the new Atlas robot, but CEO Robert Playter has shared important details. According to Playter, the new Atlas robot is much stronger and has more flexible joints than a human, or even an athlete. It’s impossible not to notice this flexibility and high mobility in the shared video.
Playter stated that among the features of the new Atlas robot, it goes beyond everything a human or even an athlete can do. In the video shared here, the new Atlas robot, which stands on its feet in an Exorcist-like manner and can turn its head 180 degrees, showcases this flexibility.
The most striking feature among the features of the new Atlas robot is its more human-like movements. While the HD Atlas moved very slowly or stuttered, the new Atlas robot seems to have much more realistic movements. In terms of size, the HD Atlas robot was quite large and heavy. The redesigned Atlas robot, on the other hand, is human-sized.
Boston Dynamics’ HD Atlas video is also quite heart-wrenching. Introduced into our lives for the first time in 2013, the robot ended its 11-year journey yesterday. Now, it will be replaced by a much more athletic Atlas robot.
Expectations are high for Hyundai to use the new Atlas robot much more effectively. Technical details for the new Atlas robot with more agile movements have not yet been revealed. So, what do you think of the new Atlas robot? Can this new humanoid robot open the door to a new era? We await your comments.
