Electronic Arts (EA) has taken an important step to shape the future of the Battlefield series. The game giant launched a test programme called Battlefield Labs for the new production of the series.
Although the new game does not yet have an official name, release date or trailer, EA users will be included in this production at an early stage.
Tests have started for the new Battlefield game
The Battlefield Labs announcement video features a short clip from the pre-alpha version of the new Battlefield game. This 10-second video signals a return to the roots of the series. The footage reflects the style of Battlefield 3 and 4.
In the video, the destruction mechanics that have become the symbol of the series draw attention. The realistic RPG explosion shows a leap in visual quality compared to previous Battlefield games. This reveals that it continues its claim on destruction technology.
Another remarkable point is that there are no specialised characters in the video. This means that the controversial expert character application in Battlefield 2042 may be abandoned. EA also introduced Battlefield Studios, which combines four studios (DICE, EA Motive, Criterion and Ripple Effect) for the future of the Battlefield series.
This multi-studio approach is reminiscent of Activision’s strategy for Call of Duty. Each studio will focus on different aspects of the Battlefield experience – multiplayer, single player and new game modes.
