Sony is in the middle of a big problem with a class action lawsuit launched in the UK. Allegedly, Sony has kept digital game prices on the PlayStation Store unfairly high, causing harm to users. The lawsuit alleges that Sony has used its dominant position in digital game sales to offer consumers unfair prices.

Sony faces class action lawsuit over overpriced PlayStation game prices

First of all, this big case was brought by Alex Neil. He is a consumer rights advocate in the UK and has 20 years of experience in the field. Neil claims that between 2016 and 2022, PlayStation users faced commissions of up to 30% when purchasing digital content, unnecessarily inflating the price of digital games.

Sony is alleged to have inflated the price of games with these commissions, harming consumers. Neil states that this behavior is against the competition laws of the UK and the European Union. This lawsuit was actually filed in 2022. Sony’s lawyers tried to have the case dismissed, but the court allowed it to continue.

At the moment, the amount of compensation demanded has reached a colossal $7.9 billion. Initially at $6.7 billion, the claims have skyrocketed as the number of consumers joining the lawsuit has increased. If this lawsuit is successfully concluded, Sony PlayStation users will be able to receive serious compensation.
