BMW has taken an important step to strengthen its in-car digital ecosystem for the Chinese market with its strategic partnership with Huawei. In this context, the German automaker will integrate Huawei’s HarmonyOS operating system into its vehicles.
BMW to fully integrate HarmonyOS into its vehicles
Thanks to the integration, BMW vehicles will become more compatible with Huawei’s smartphones and other devices. The first BMW models with HarmonyOS integration are planned to be launched in 2026.

BMW Group China Region President and CEO Sean Green stated that BMW aims to provide advanced in-car applications and digital connectivity services for Huawei users by providing deep integration with the HarmonyOS ecosystem.
This integration is expected to provide a smarter and smoother experience in frequently used digital services. A new technology called BMW Digital Key is also being developed within the scope of the partnership. This feature will turn Huawei smartphones into the keys of their BMW vehicles. Users will be able to lock and unlock their vehicles and start the engine with their phones.
In 2026, BMW Neue Klasse models to be produced in China will have a deep integration of the Huawei HiCar system. This system will establish a seamless “human-car-home” connection within the HarmonyOS ecosystem, allowing drivers to have a more advanced digital experience with their vehicles.
