One of the most talked-about games of recent times, Helldivers 2, is now rumored to be opening up to Xbox users. Although PlayStation’s popular title is currently only playable on PS5 and PC platforms, it seems that Xbox Series X|S users might also get their hands on it in the near future. Here are the details you need to know about this unexpected development…
The game’s Microsoft release depends on Sony, not the developer!
Recent statements from Thomas ‘Twinbeard’ Petersson, Arrowhead’s community manager, have excited fans. Responding to a comment on the game’s Discord server where a user said it would “never come to Xbox,” Petersson replied, “Who says it can’t?” making quite a bold statement.
This development is seen as another sign of the softening relations between PlayStation and Xbox in recent times. Rumors that Xbox’s flagship title Forza Horizon 5 could be coming to PS5 also hint that the rivalry between the two companies might give way to cooperation.
In his detailed statement, Petersson said, “This decision is not in our hands. Sony and Xbox President Phil Spencer need to sit down at the table. If both parties think it makes sense financially and in terms of brand value, why not?”
Reminding fans that the Helldivers brand is owned by Sony, the community manager said the final decision lies with PlayStation. However, Sony’s recent open-minded approach is giving Xbox owners plenty of hope. The fact that PlayStation exclusives like God of War and Spider-Man have made their way to PC suggests that the company’s rigid stance on platform exclusivity might be changing.
What do you think about this? Would you like to see Helldivers 2 on Microsoft’s console? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
