Electric vehicle manufacturer BYD is moving to expand its charging infrastructure in China on a large scale. The company announced that it has partnered with Xiaoju Charging and Xindietu to build megawatt-level fast-charging stations. The partnership will build a total of 15,000 megawatt charging stations across China.
BYD to build 15,000 megawatt charging stations
This new initiative significantly expands the scope of BYD’s previously announced plan to build 4,000 megawatt stations. The previous plan had activated 500 stations in 200 cities. With the new project, China’s ultra-fast charging infrastructure is preparing for its largest-scale expansion to date.

BYD introduced megawatt charging technology to the field with the Han L and Tang L models introduced in March. These vehicles can provide a range of 400 kilometers with just five minutes of charging. The technology is based on a battery system with a capacity of 1,000 volts, 1,000 amps and 1,000 kilowatts.
This infrastructure, which significantly reduces charging times, also has a dual-gun charging system. This system almost doubles the power output and shortens the charging time by 70 percent compared to current standards. A single charging gun reduces the time by 45 percent compared to traditional fast charging.
The Han L and Tang L models were the first vehicles to demonstrate the practical impact of this infrastructure. According to April sales data, the Han L model reached 10,483 units, while the Tang L model reached 11,406 units. The total number of deliveries of the Han and Tang series exceeded 40 thousand in April alone.
BYD stated that this success was achieved thanks to the user advantages provided by the new charging technology. So what do you think about this? You can share your opinions with us in the comments section below.
