Chinese automotive giant BYD made a rapid entry into 2025. Rising rapidly in the electric vehicle market, the brand sold over 1 million new generation vehicles between January and March 2025. Compared to the same period of the previous year, 416 thousand of these sales were fully electric vehicles and 569 thousand were hybrid models, recording an increase of 60 per cent.
BYD’s global sales increased by 60 per cent
Delivering more than 377 thousand vehicles in March, BYD showed a significant growth in the domestic market and on a global scale. The Dynasty and Ocean series of the brand provided most of this growth, while Denza, Fang Cheng Bao and Yangwang brands in the ultra-luxury segment also contributed.

BYD’s overseas sales boomed in this period. In the first three months of 2025, global deliveries totalled over 206 thousand. This figure means more than doubling compared to the same period last year. Sales of over 72 thousand in March alone revealed the brand’s impact and expanding boundaries in the global market.
Behind the brand’s sales success, especially affordable models are behind. The Seagull model, which is offered for sale in China for about 10 thousand dollars, is marketed under the name ‘Dolphin Mini’ abroad. This model, which was put on sale in Mexico with a price tag of $20,000, attracted great interest, especially in emerging markets.
BYD not only focussed on the economic class, but also asserted its claim in the luxury segment. The Yangwang U7 stands out with 1,287 horsepower and the ability to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds. Offering a range of 447 miles, this electric sedan is available for approximately $87,700.
New models for the European market are also on the way. BYD, which aims to increase its market share in Europe with vehicles such as Sealion 7 and compact Atto 2 in the mid-size SUV segment, will launch the low-priced Seagull model under the name ‘Dolphin Surf’ in this region.
