Google has finally begun rolling out a long-awaited feature globally for Pixel phone users. In September, the company announced that it would bring voice call recording to Pixel 6 and newer models. According to the latest information, this feature is now widely available through the Google Phone app, allowing users to record phone calls.
Google Phone app updated: Pixels can now record calls
The feature’s rollout accelerated with the latest versions of the app. While Google’s support page was updated in September, most users weren’t seeing this option active on their phones. Tech sources confirmed that the call recording option became available with stable version 198 or public beta version 200 of the Google Phone app. This development has been tested and confirmed on the latest devices, such as the Pixel 10 Pro and 10 Pro Fold.

However, simply updating the app isn’t enough to use the feature. It’s crucial that users also install the November Update (Pixel Drop). Tests revealed that the feature was not visible on a Pixel 8 Pro that had updated its Google Phone app but had not yet received the November system update. After the system update was completed, the “Call Recording” option appeared in the app settings.
Therefore, in addition to having a Pixel 6 or later device, activating the feature requires both an up-to-date Google Phone app and the latest system update. This feature also requires Android 14 or later for Google phones to work. For other non-Pixel devices that use the Google Phone app, this feature was already available on Android 9 and above (if regional support is available).
Users can enable the feature in the Phone app by going to Settings > Call Assistance > Call Recording. Google offers users flexible options. You can manually record individual calls, or set calls from specific numbers or unknown numbers not in your contact list to be automatically recorded. When the feature is enabled, a warning screen appears on your first call, informing the other party that the call is being recorded, as required by legal requirements.
This move by Google puts the Pixel phones in a more competitive position against their competitors. So, what are your thoughts on the voice call recording feature coming to the Pixel phones? Do you plan to use it?
