Recently, Meta, the parent company of Ready at Dawn, known for popular games like Daxter, God of War: Chains of Olympus, God of War: Ghost of Sparta, The Order: 1886, and the Lone Echo series, shut down the studio. Following this closure, information has surfaced about a game developed by Ready at Dawn that was intended to rival the Assassin’s Creed series.
The Order: 1886’s Sequel Was Planned to Be Like Assassin’s Creed
Renowned gaming insider Shinobi602 made an intriguing statement on Twitter/X. According to Shinobi602, before Meta acquired Ready at Dawn, the studio had been planning various aspects for a sequel to The Order: 1886. These plans were focused particularly on gameplay experience, aiming to revolutionize the gaming world.
The sequel to The Order: 1886 was expected to use the same engine as the original game, avoiding the need to develop a new engine from scratch. This approach was intended to achieve a significant leap similar to the transition from the first Assassin’s Creed game to Assassin’s Creed II.
Released on February 20, 2015, for PlayStation 4, The Order: 1886 was set in an alternate history version of London in 1886. Players controlled the Knights of the Round Table, tasked with protecting the world from hybrid creatures like werewolves and vampires and rebel groups opposing the government. The gameplay focused on cover-based shooting with various weapons and featured a linear storyline.
While we may never see this game come to fruition, it’s worth noting that despite its poor sales, negative reviews, and Sony’s apparent disapproval, The Order: 1886 still retains a small fanbase. It remains to be seen if the game or its concepts will ever resurface.
