The additional customs duties implemented by the US, which change every day, have begun to seriously affect global automobile manufacturers. Due to the tariffs frequently updated by Donald Trump, manufacturers have decided to temporarily halt vehicle imports to the US, unable to risk losses. This has created a complex picture where thousands of vehicles are waiting at US ports.
Automobile manufacturers are not importing vehicles to the US
Although the Trump administration has suspended additional customs duties for countries other than China for 90 days, this postponement does not apply to automobiles and automobile parts. An additional customs duty of 25 percent is still applied in this area.

For this reason, automobile manufacturers are concerned about the possibility of suffering a serious financial loss if the tariffs are lifted after they have imported their vehicles into the country at high costs. Since importing vehicles has become a risk factor under the current conditions, many manufacturers have suspended deliveries.
Among those that have halted imports are leading brands such as Aston Martin, Audi and Jaguar Land Rover. During this period, companies will continue their sales using their existing stocks in the US. However, since there is no new vehicle flow, these stocks may run out in the near future.
Trump’s announcement that he will impose a new tariff on auto parts as of May 3 has further increased the uncertainty in the sector. The lack of clarity on what is even covered by the definition of “parts” is forcing automakers to act cautiously.
While thousands of vehicles are currently waiting at US ports, both manufacturers and distributors are following the new decisions to be made by the government. So what do you think about this issue? You can share your views with us in the comments section below.
