Chinese battery manufacturer CATL introduced its second generation Shenxing battery at an event in Shanghai. The new generation battery can offer a range of 520 kilometres with only 5 minutes of charging. This capacity has been one of the highest values ever achieved in the field of fast charging.
CATL introduces battery offering 520 km range with 5 minutes of charging
Shenxing 2nd generation battery will have the capacity to provide a driving range of up to 800 kilometres. With a charging power of up to 1.3 megawatts, a charging rate of 12C is achieved. The battery’s performance at low temperatures is also remarkable.

In the tests, it was stated that even in adverse conditions such as -10 degrees Celsius, it took only 15 minutes to charge from 5 per cent to 80 per cent. CATL announced that this new battery will be used in approximately 70 different new electric vehicle models within the year. Thus, it is expected to switch to this technology both in models suitable for urban use and in long-range vehicles.
At the same event, the company also introduced a new sodium ion battery solution with an energy density of 175 watt-hours per kilogram. Although sodium ion batteries have a lower energy density compared to conventional lithium ion batteries, they stand out in terms of cost advantage and environmental sustainability.
Both CATL’s Shenxing 2nd generation battery and new sodium solutions could create a new standard in the electric vehicle industry. So what do you think about this issue? You can share your opinions with us in the comments section below.
