OpenAI has announced its new AI-powered web browser, called the ChatGPT Atlas browser. This move marks a major expansion for the company beyond its popular chatbot, ChatGPT. The new browser aims to make use more interactive by integrating ChatGPT’s capabilities directly into the web experience.
What will the ChatGPT Atlas browser offer?
OpenAI sparked curiosity with a cryptic post from its X account. According to the subsequent official announcement, ChatGPT Atlas will initially be available only to macOS users worldwide. However, support for Windows, iOS, and Android operating systems is also “coming soon.”
This new product launch comes as the race among tech companies to more deeply integrate AI assistants into everyday devices is accelerating. For example, Google has already integrated the Gemini model into its Chrome browser. Perplexity also released an AI-powered browser called Comet earlier this year.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, in a post on X, raised expectations by announcing that they would be introducing “a new product that he’s very excited about” at the event. ChatGPT Atlas is seen as a significant step in how artificial intelligence will change our internet usage habits.
