Recently, one of the significant names in the AI world, ChatGPT, made an interesting error regarding the U.S. Presidential elections and the Joe Biden vs. Donald Trump debate held last week. The AI model developed by OpenAI claimed there was a 1 to 2-minute delay in the U.S. Presidential debates.
ChatGPT insists on its mistake about the U.S. elections
As you know, almost every TV channel uses broadcast delay technology. During live broadcasts, many programs we watch ‘live’ are actually delayed by 4-5 seconds as a precaution against any mistakes or situations that need to be censored. ChatGPT insisted that this technology was used during the U.S. Presidential Election.
A user asked ChatGPT about the dynamics of the U.S. Presidential debates. In its response, ChatGPT claimed that the debates were broadcasted with a 1-2 minute delay, allowing moderators and broadcast managers to cut out inappropriate comments.
When the user pointed out that this information was incorrect, ChatGPT persistently defended the claim, even asserting that this practice was done to ensure the honesty and sustainability of the debates.
Although there was no statement from CNN, which broadcasted the live debate, it is known that the U.S. Presidential Election debates were aired without delay. This incident shows that AI systems can encounter situations referred to as ‘hallucinations.’ ChatGPT may have generated this incorrect information by wrongly combining or inferring from different sources.
