OpenAI’s widely used ChatGPT service suffered a major outage, leaving its 100 million weekly active users in a difficult situation. The outage occurred shortly before 9 a.m. and the platform remained inaccessible to millions of users for close to 2 hours. This unexpected outage also had a ripple effect on the company’s API services.
Although ChatGPT experienced a worldwide outage, it was not felt much in Turkey
Instead of the usual responsive platform, ChatGPT users were greeted with a frustrating message that the service was “currently at capacity”. OpenAI acknowledged that both the API and ChatGPT were struggling with an issue that was causing high error rates, and set about fixing the problem.
The team worked tirelessly to fix the situation and eventually restored functionality at around 18:50 GMT. In total, the outage lasted for around two hours.
Interestingly, this was not the only disruption to the service. There was also a partial outage the night before, but it did not affect all users. Until these recent events, OpenAI’s chatbot platform had operated with remarkable reliability, reaching 100 million weekly users without any significant outages.
There are also more than 2 million developers working on the API side of operations, underscoring the significant impact of OpenAI’s services on the developer community. Have you also experienced access problems? Please don’t forget to share your comments with us in the comments section below.
