ChatGPT, popularly used by everyone from students to software developers, is now the focus of cybersecurity analysts. OpenAI’s artificial intelligence helped in an investigation by a security firm. It was able to decipher malware aimed at Mac users.
ChatGPT deciphered a malware attack for Mac
Cybersecurity researchers have discovered Mac-focused malware being sold on the dark web using ChatGPT. The malware, dubbed ShadowVault and HVNC, allows attackers to gain complete control over Mac devices.
The ShadowVault malware provides remote access to infiltrate Macs without the owner’s knowledge. Once installed, hackers can steal sensitive data such as login credentials, financial information and personal files.
HVNC targets the “Virtual Network” computing technology used mostly by companies. As part of this attack, hackers can interact with the compromised Mac and create a secret desktop session.
It was stated that the malware is sold on dark web forums for prices between 60 thousand and 80 thousand dollars. Attacks were reportedly carried out through fake websites, unknown emails or hacking tools.
Although Apple has not yet commented on the threats, it was stated that Mac users should stay away from messages from unknown e-mails. Experts also recommend the use of password managers, VPN and antivirus software against possible dangers.
