OpenAI’s new image generation tool for ChatGPT has been met with great interest and has become a trend. As users discover the ability to create images in specific art styles like Studio Ghibli, they flock to ChatGPT. This has led to traffic that strains OpenAI’s infrastructure and puts a heavy load on GPUs.
ChatGPT’s new image generation tool has attracted great interest
The new image generation model has attracted attention with its ability to produce scenes in the style of Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki. Users can create detailed, hand-drawn, and emotionally powerful images with just text commands. Historical events and modern pop culture figures, especially reimagined in the Ghibli style, have gone viral on social media.

This intense interest has pushed OpenAI’s hardware infrastructure to its limits. CEO Sam Altman humorously shared on social media that the company’s graphics processors are “melting” due to the overwhelming demand. Creating images with AI requires much more computation than traditional image processing methods.
The system analyzes each pixel and determines the most suitable color-texture combination, requiring large-scale GPU clusters to run at full capacity. As user demand increases, OpenAI’s processing power has come under serious pressure.
Due to this intensity, OpenAI has introduced some temporary restrictions. Free users are limited to three visual creations per day, and processing times have been extended. The new feature is available to free users as of today, but access is being provided gradually due to excessive load.
