Chinese car manufacturer Chery is changing its iCar brand to avoid potential legal action with Apple. The company will no longer use this name in markets outside of China. Since Apple’s rights to the iCar name are still valid, Chery will prefer the name “iCaur” in foreign markets.
Chery is changing its iCar brand
Although Apple shelved its car project last year, the commercial rights to the name “iCar” still belong to this company. This situation paved the way for a potential conflict in the branding process. Chery decided to change its name in order to minimize legal risks. With this change, a significant revision was made to the company’s international brand strategy.

Models developed under this name will now be positioned directly under the Chery brand. In this way, the company plans to simplify its current product range and make it more compatible with the global market.
Within the scope of the new naming, the “iCaur” brand will first be used in the UK. The first model to be launched in this context will be the V23 electric SUV, which stands out with its retro lines. The vehicle is expected to attract attention with its compact design and electric infrastructure, especially suitable for urban use.
Chery’s global growth plans are also being reshaped. The company aims to open a total of 2,000 authorized dealers in 100 different countries in the next three years. This expansion strategy will allow the brand to become more visible in different continents, especially in Europe.
