The Chinese Government has banned the purchase and use of US Intel, AMD and Microsoft products in government computers. The new guidelines require most government agencies to favor domestic alternatives such as Huawei.
China wants to use products from Chinese companies like Huawei instead of products from US companies
In a response to US restrictions on processor imports, China is now banning the purchase of Intel, AMD and Microsoft products for government computers.
Citing the transition to “secure and reliable” hardware and software, the People’s Republic of China’s Information Technology Security Evaluation Center has created a list of companies that government agencies can purchase hardware and software from. However, the list does not include world giant PC processor manufacturers such as Intel and AMD, nor a leading software company such as Microsoft. Chinese competitors such as Huawei are included in the list.
These guidelines were announced in December last year but were implemented as policy this week. All government agencies above the county level must comply with these standards. However, the ban is not directed at consumers or companies.
The decision is expected to have minimal impact on Microsoft. But China generates billions of dollars in sales for both AMD and Intel. This will be a big change for both companies.
The US is trying to weaken China’s competition in the American AI market by banning the sale of powerful CPUs and GPUs. It is also investing in domestic chip production to increase independence from manufacturing in Taiwan.
The share prices of Intel, AMD and Nvidia fell slightly after this decision. What do you think? Please don’t forget to share your thoughts with us in the comments section below.
