Chinese automotive giant BYD, known for its automobiles and Tesla competitor, has taken a remarkable step in the world of technology.According to the information, the company is preparing to develop artificial intelligence-based human-like robots.
BYD will develop human-like robots
According to sources, BYD has created a dedicated team for robot development under its 15th business unit. Established in 2003, this unit was renamed FinDreams Technology in 2019 and was responsible for critical activities such as battery, motor and electronic system development. But in 2023, the structure, renamed the 15th business unit, gained a new focus on human-like robots.
BYD’s new team has started working on bipedal robots, four-legged mechanical dogs and human-like robots. The first phase is to develop automated guided vehicles (AGVs) designed for automation. This area is integrated with artificial intelligence technologies.
To recruit talented researchers in this new field of technology, BYD has posted special job openings for graduates from universities around the world. As expected, the company is also reportedly offering a remarkable salary.
In fact, BYD is not the only automotive company interested in robotics. Xpeng, also a China-based company, introduced a human-like robot called “Iron”, 178 cm tall and weighing 70 kg, in November 2023.
