There has been a sad development in low-system Chromebook computers based on Google’s ChromeOS operating system. For a while, it was rumored that Nvidia graphics cards would come to Chromebooks and these affordable models would be strengthened. However, Nvidia has no such plan for Chromebooks.
Nvidia-powered Google Chromebook computer will not be released
ChromeOS users have received disappointing news from Google and Nvidia. Google has canceled plans to launch Chromebook models powered by dedicated Nvidia graphics cards.
The codes included in the ChromeOS update showed that Google has stopped the development of multiple models it has been working on since last year. Among the canceled projects are Chromebooks planned to be used for gaming.
Manufacturers such as Acer, Asus and Lenovo are working on new gaming-oriented Chromebooks with high-refresh rate displays and much improved keyboards. But these models still rely on graphics chips integrated into the processor. This limits their ability to play games at high settings.
Nvidia’s special graphics cards for these computers could open a new door in Chromebook gaming. However, rumors that Chromebook computers would be aimed at gamers have been denied.
ChromeOS-based devices are currently focused on cloud services like Nvidia GeForce Now. Users who want to play games on their own computers will have to choose Windows or consoles for a while longer.
