According to the latest announcement by Meta, the company will launch a new feature that allows users to start group chats. The feature will first be tested in Messenger; then Meta will expand it to Facebook Groups in the coming weeks. Here are all the details about Community Chats.
Community Chats will be like Discord
With the new coming Community Chats feature, users will be able to create chats and audio channels. They will also invite other people to join their group via the app. While the new feature is a mix of Messenger and Facebook Groups, it also has some hints from Discord. Even if it is unclear when Meta will launch it, the company could launch the new feature soon.
Meta aims to help users to connect more deeply with larger communities over shared interests in real-time with the new feature. The new feature lets users get in touch via text chat, audio, and video. Additionally, it will be related to the mix of Messenger and Facebook Groups.
Community Chats will be like Discord with its details. Admins will have access to create chats for their community, like an event chat, a view-only broadcast chat, an admin-only chat, and voice channels. Also, admins will have the ability to block, mute, and suspend members from the community, and they will also be able to remove the messages.
Meta also improved an AI for Community Chats that can learn and automatically remove harmful messages. Group members will also have the ability to report harmful content to their admins, block a user, and leave the chat on their own at any time.
Meta announced, “with Community Chats, people can connect with their communities in real time around the topics they care about on both Facebook and Messenger via text, audio, and video. The experience seamlessly blends Messenger and Facebook Groups. Admins can start a conversation about a topic and get in-the-moment responses instead of waiting for people to comment on a post.”
