Smartphone manufacturers update their models every year, incorporating the latest processors. As technology advances each year, phones can deliver much better performance. However, this situation may change for the upcoming year.
Manufacturers are concerned about the cost of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3
Qualcomm is expected to release the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 flagship processor in late 2023. Naturally, many manufacturers want to use this processor in their next-generation flagship phones. However, Qualcomm’s new processor may be somewhat expensive for some brands and models.
According to recent reports, the price of Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will be slightly higher than usual. Therefore, some manufacturers are planning to use Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 or a Dimensity chipset in their smartphones instead of Qualcomm’s latest processor.
The high price of Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 worries manufacturers, and we may only see it in high-end smartphones with labels like Pro or Ultra. Standard flagship phones from brands will probably host Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 or MediaTek Dimensity processors.
Therefore, it’s not expected that brands will adopt the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor in their standard flagship models. It’s already clear that the next-generation flagship phones using this processor will be much more expensive.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will undoubtedly offer superior performance. However, it seems that those who want to use this processor will need to pay extra. On the other hand, MediaTek’s flagship processors and Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 already offer quite sufficient performance.
So, what do you think about Snapdragon’s latest processor and flagship phone models? Would you be interested in buying a flagship phone with an older processor? You can share your opinions in the comments section.
