Apple is coming to change the balance in the desktop computer market with the new M4 Max/Ultra Mac Studio model, which we expect to be introduced in the first half of 2025. The company will appeal to professional users with the new model, which stands out with its high-performance processors. So what can we expect from the new devices? Here are the details…
Mac Studio with M4 Max and M4 Ultra chips to be released in the first half of 2025
The chips to be used in Apple’s next generation Mac Studio models, M4 Max and M4 Ultra, will make a name for themselves in terms of performance. The M4 Max chip provides superior processing power with a 16-core CPU and 40-core GPU. The M4 Ultra chip doubles that performance thanks to UltraFusion technology, offering a 32-core CPU and 80-core GPU.
In fact, the M4 Max chip was tested in the previously introduced MacBook Pro models and was highly appreciated by users. Now, this chip will reach a wider user base by moving to desktop computers. Apple claims that with the M4 Ultra chip, Mac Studio will surpass the M4 Pro-based Mac Mini, which is currently the fastest desktop computer on the market.
A new era of connectivity and speed: Thunderbolt 5 and Wi-Fi 7
The new Mac Studio comes with significant improvements in connectivity. In particular, Thunderbolt 5 support will boost data transfer speeds up to 120Gb/s, making it much faster to transfer large files and integrate with external devices. Apple may also include Wi-Fi 7 support in this model.
Wi-Fi 7 improves the performance of Wi-Fi 6E by five times, theoretically offering speeds of up to 46Gbps. This technology will come with a significant improvement in network performance, with less signal interference and faster data streaming. However, support for Wi-Fi 7 has not yet been confirmed.
The new Mac Studio is expected to offer a compact and minimalist design similar to its predecessor. Apple will use a quieter cooling system and more energy-efficient components to boost performance.
