When you visit Google today, you’ll still see the iconic “I’m Feeling Lucky” button—but that may soon become a thing of the past. Recent developments suggest that the search engine is testing a new artificial intelligence feature, and this new tool might replace the legendary button.
Is Google Pulling the Plug on the “I’m Feeling Lucky” Button?
Some users have started seeing a new feature called “AI Mode” when they visit Google. Images shared on platforms like X and Threads show that Google is experimenting with different placements for the AI Mode tab.
Screenshots so far reveal that Google is testing the AI Mode button either next to the “Search by Image” button or directly in the place of the “I’m Feeling Lucky” button.
It’s worth noting that the feature is currently being tested with a limited number of users. However, once AI Mode becomes widely available, it is expected to be placed either next to the “Search by Image” button or directly in place of the “I’m Feeling Lucky” button.
The primary purpose of the “I’m Feeling Lucky” button is to take the user directly to the first result of their search query. It’s designed to save time by bypassing the need to click through multiple links in search results.
However, the outcome may not always be entirely relevant, since Google automatically redirects the user to the top-ranked link. This can sometimes lead to the perfect answer—but other times, it may result in an unrelated page.
The “I’m Feeling Lucky” button can even be used without entering a search term. In that case, it redirects the user to the Google Doodles page, which features personalized versions of the logo celebrating anniversaries, holidays, and other notable events.
