Cyberpunk 2077 Browser Port Runs Free in Chrome via WebGPU

A Cyberpunk 2077 browser port that runs the full open world of Night City inside Chrome or Edge, with no download and no purchase, has been online since October 22, 2026. The unofficial project comes from an independent developer known as omonkey, is not affiliated with CD Projekt Red, and as of October 30 the developer’s X account, @omonkeyzz, shows as suspended while the site itself is still up.
How the Cyberpunk 2077 Browser Port Works
This is not cloud gaming. Services like GeForce Now render a game on a remote server and send you a video stream. The browser port instead runs the game on your own PC: the engine is compiled to WebAssembly, and WebGPU, the graphics standard built into modern browsers, lets it draw Night City with your own graphics card. Models, textures and other assets stream into the tab while you play.
According to a technical breakdown of the build, the page needs 64-bit WebAssembly, shared memory with cross-origin isolation and WebGPU with hardware acceleration. Desktop Chrome, Edge and Brave are supported, Chrome on some Android phones reportedly works, and Firefox does not. Players can create a male or female V in the character creator and then roam the open world. It covers the base game in single player only, without the Phantom Liberty expansion.
Long Loads, Freezes and Missing Audio
The browser removes the install, not the hardware requirement. The first launch downloads a large batch of data and compiles shaders before anything appears on screen. Shane the Gamer cites a Russian outlet whose first attempt pulled almost 700 MB and then showed a black screen on integrated graphics. Early players also report freezes and missing sound, and GamingBible warns that even a high-end PC will not run it as smoothly as the official release.
Why It May Not Stay Online
Most fan ports ask players to supply files from a copy they already own. This one does neither: it serves the game’s assets to anyone who opens the page, with no ownership check. CD Projekt Red has not publicly commented, but its fan content guidelines ask fans not to make games based on its titles or use its game names in website domains.
Recent history is not encouraging for the project. A viral GTA V browser port went offline within hours earlier this month, and omonkey’s own Fortnite OG browser rebuild also went dark within days. Microsoft is pushing official games into the browser with Xbox Labs, which shows where the technology is heading through licensed channels.
What It Means for You
If you want to play Cyberpunk 2077 legally, the game is sold on Steam, GOG, Epic and consoles, and it can be streamed through services like GeForce Now if you own a copy. The port launched the same week as the free Update 2.5 and the Edgerunners 2 content, and it lands while CD Projekt Red works on a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action film.
