The gaming world experienced a major shakeup last year. While many major companies halted their projects, layoffs were rampant. However, CD Projekt Red had a remarkably successful year in 2023 thanks to the continued success of Cyberpunk 2077. So, how much money did the science-fiction action game make?
How Much Did Cyberpunk 2077 Earn?
According to its annual financial report, CD Projekt Red earned $308.4 million in revenue in 2023, marking a 29% increase compared to the previous year. Cyberpunk 2077, on the other hand, saw an 81% growth compared to 2022 after the release of the Phantom Liberty expansion, raking in $213.6 million.
This figure indicates that Cyberpunk 2077 accounted for more than half of the company’s revenue. Moreover, the company’s net profit reached a record $120 million last year. North America continued to be the largest market, accounting for over 71% of total sales.
Since its initial launch in 2020, Cyberpunk 2077 has reached sales figures of $750 million. This means the game has offset development and marketing costs of over $400 million, almost doubling the company’s profits.
In his statement regarding the matter, CFO Piotr Nielubowicz said, “The success of Phantom Liberty and the resurgence of positive sentiments around the core game delighted us. It was important for CD Projekt, which is rooted in building strong brands, to further grow.”
CD Projekt Red also announced that it has allocated a significant portion of its development efforts to the new installment of The Witcher series. After completing the final stage of Cyberpunk 2077, the company has shifted its resources to The Witcher 4: Polaris.
