A recall announced by Samsung SDI affects batteries produced by the company. Accordingly, four major car manufacturers are affected by this recall. Ford, Jeep, VW and Audi said there was a fire risk with high-voltage battery packs supplied by Samsung.
Samsung battery defect affects Ford, Jeep, VW and Audi
Stellantis announced a recall of 155,000 2020-2024 Jeep Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe plug-in hybrid models. According to Samsung, the problem involves a defect in the battery pack and could lead to a fire.
Ford’s 2020-2024 Escape and 2021-2024 Lincoln Corsair models are also included in the recall. Its internal investigation identified the source of the problem in high-voltage cells that may have been damaged during assembly.
Audi made a recall for 2022 A7 and 2022-2023 Q5 models. Although the exact cause was not disclosed for Audi models, it confirmed that thermal overload could lead to smoke or fire.
The repair for the battery fault is still under development by Samsung. Ford has provided a safety update that will display a ‘Stop Safely Now’ warning on the dashboard if the fault is detected in affected vehicles.
