Some technical details have emerged about Apple’s A18 processor, which is expected to be introduced with the next-generation iPhone 16 series. Apple has made some changes to its processor strategy in recent years and started offering different processors for each model. For example, while the Pro models in the iPhone 15 series came with the A17 Pro processor, the other models used the A16 processor. In 2024, all iPhone 16 models will have the same generation processor, but different versions will be used in the standard models and Pro models.
New details about Apple’s A18 processor emerge
Apple’s A18 processor will be manufactured using TSMC’s 3nm process and will come in two versions: the A18 and the A18 Pro. The A18 will be manufactured using a process called N3E (Evolution), which will give it lower power consumption, while the A18 Pro will be manufactured using a process called N3P (Performance), which will offer higher performance.
While Apple’s standard A18 processor will have a 5-core CPU, the A18 Pro will have one more core. On the CPU side, there will be two high-power cores with a frequency of up to 4.05GHz, while there will also be four energy-efficient cores.
This structure offers a total of six-core CPU. Up to 30% improvement in GPU performance is expected, while a 10% decrease in energy consumption is targeted. In Geekbench tests, the A18 processor is expected to be 5% faster than its predecessor, the A17.
Apple also plans to make significant improvements for AI and machine learning applications with A18. It is expected to provide higher performance and efficiency, especially in AI-supported applications. Apple’s A18 processor will be officially introduced with Apple products on September 9. We are eagerly waiting to see how Apple will integrate these new technologies into the iPhone 16 series.
