American media giant Paramount has canceled the second season of “Dexter: Original Sin,” a series about the teenage years of the popular serial killer Dexter. The series, which had previously been renewed for a second season in April, was shelved four months later. Paramount made this decision to focus on the more successful “Dexter: Resurrection,” which premiered in July.
Dexter: Original Sin’s new season has been canceled
“Dexter: Original Sin,” which premiered in December, received generally positive reviews, and its viewing figures met Paramount’s expectations. The series travels back to 1991, 15 years before the events of the original series, and tells the story of an inexperienced Dexter Morgan in his early 20s. This success led to the renewal of a second season in April.

However, “Dexter: Resurrection,” which premiered in July and served as a sequel to the original series, depicted the new adventures of Dexter Morgan in the present day. This new series proved far more successful than “Original Sin,” prompting Paramount to fully focus on the series. This week, the company revised its plans for the series and canceled the second season of “Dexter: Resurrection” while preparing for a second season.
The success of “Dexter: Resurrection” wasn’t the sole reason behind this sudden decision. The recently concluded Skydance-Paramount deal also played a role. Skydance, which acquired Paramount, is currently reviewing all projects it acquired from the company.
The revocation of the second season order for “Original Sin” was a result of this review. The new management has completely shifted its focus to “Dexter: Resurrection” and canceled “Original Sin.”
