Elon Musk has revealed that his connection with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which was established by US President Donald Trump to reduce federal spending, has made it difficult for him to manage his business. Speaking to Larry Kudlow on Fox Business, Musk said that DOGE has placed an additional burden on him, saying, “Frankly, I can’t believe I’m doing this here.” Some names in the sector even claim that Musk regrets this initiative.

While DOGE stands out as an ambitious initiative established with the aim of reducing government spending, it has been criticized by some experts for being ineffective. The institution, which currently has approximately 100 employees, is planned to reach 200 in a short time. However, experts on government contracts argue that DOGE’s savings calculations are misleading and that artificial profits are shown on canceled contracts.

DOGE’s activities are not limited to financial matters. Cybersecurity experts claim that the department is putting the US’s IT infrastructure at risk. Some DOGE employees allegedly accessed government systems through unsecured means and copied sensitive data onto unprotected servers.
Musk’s relationship with DOGE has also sparked other debates. Critics claim that Musk is using this initiative to benefit companies such as X, Tesla and SpaceX, which are under surveillance. The department’s weakening of federal agencies could help Musk’s companies face less regulatory pressure.
Musk emphasized that DOGE brings him additional responsibilities, but announced that he will extend his term at the department for another year. The effectiveness of DOGE and Musk’s role in this process will continue to be debated in the coming period.
