Not every comment on social media platforms may receive a positive response. When users want to express their disagreement with a comment, they cannot find a mechanism to show this reaction. Instagram is preparing to bring a dislike button to comments to find a solution to this situation.
Instagram is bringing a dislike button to comments
Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri confirmed in a statement he made on his Threads account that they are testing a dislike button for comments upon users’ requests. Alessandro Paluzzi, known for his leaks, had previously announced this feature.
According to Mosseri, this button will allow users to express their disagreement with comments. The number of dislikes will not be visible to everyone, and it will not be clear who disliked.
Instagram aims to make comment sections more lively with this feature. However, this is not the only reason behind the dislike button. The platform will use the data it gets from this feature to optimize its comment ranking algorithm.
“I want to be clear: This is a test, there will be no dislike counts and no one will know you clicked the button. Eventually, we may use this signal in the comment ranking to move disliked comments lower,” CEO Mosseri said in a statement.
Mosseri did not say when the testing period would end or when the dislike button would become more widely available.
