Trying to stand out among tough competitors like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ still maintains a significant user base. However, things are starting to go downhill for the platform. Especially in Turkey, Disney+ has faced heavy criticism for its recent decisions. According to the latest figures, the platform has suffered a major subscriber loss. Here are the numbers!
Disney Plus Loses 700,000 Subscribers!
Disney+ lost a total of 700,000 subscribers in the last three months of 2024. This decline corresponds to the first quarter of Disney’s 2025 fiscal year. The platform’s total subscriber count, excluding Disney+ Hotstar, has officially dropped to 124.6 million.

According to the same report, ESPN+ also lost 700,000 subscribers during the same period. However, Disney’s other streaming service, Hulu, gained 1.6 million new subscribers, bringing its total subscriber count to 53.6 million. While Disney’s digital streaming revenue has been profitable for three consecutive quarters, the company is now facing warning signs of trouble.
Despite subscriber losses, Disney exceeded Wall Street expectations with its Q1 2025 financial results. The company reported a total revenue of $24.7 billion and earnings per share of $1.76. In particular, the success of Moana 2, which grossed $1 billion at the box office, helped stabilize the company’s overall performance.
As of 2025, Disney aims to accelerate the merger of Disney+ and Hulu as part of its strategy to revamp its digital streaming approach. This merger is expected to attract new users, especially in the U.S. market. However, experts suggest that in the long run, Disney will need to invest more in original content to compete effectively with Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
