EA Games has brought the college basketball game series, which has been silent for a long time after NCAA Basketball ’10, which was released in 2009, back to the agenda. The company announced the series’ return with a short but striking post on its official X account.
The NCAA Basketball series is returning
The post simply stated, “We’re bringing back the madness. Let’s start again.” A basketball with the “EA Sports” logo on it was used as a visual. The #CBB hashtag also drew attention along with the statement.
This development created great excitement among sports game enthusiasts. Social media users showed great interest after the post. Comments such as “Thank you for saving us from 2K’s clutches” and “Don’t be lazy and release the PC version too” quickly became prominent messages on the platform. Players were pleased that a new alternative was coming, especially after having to make do with basketball games offered only by 2K Sports for many years.
The return of college basketball to the gaming world means a significant return not only for gamers but also for EA. EA, which introduced college football to gamers with College Football 25, which was released in 2024, met the great demand in this area and earned over a billion dollars in revenue in the first weeks of the game. The fact that a similar approach is now being implemented on the basketball side shows that the company’s strategy for college sports continues.
It is not yet known whether the new basketball game will have an NCAA license. However, according to a leaked document, the Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC) called for proposals for a new college basketball game and EA was the company selected in this process.
According to the document, not only men’s teams but also women’s teams will be in the game. This detail is considered a sign that a more inclusive experience will be offered, unlike previous productions.
It is stated that the development process of the game has already started. The target for the release date of the first version is 2028. No official trailer, gameplay footage or more comprehensive explanation has been shared about the game at the moment.
However, even just a single sentence of the announcement seems to have resurfaced the longing players have felt for the series to return. Whether EA Games will be able to meet expectations in this series, which it has revisited after 16 years, will continue to be on the agenda in the coming years.
