Mercedes-Benz unveiled the new electric G 580 series at the Auto China 2024 Fair in Shanghai, China. With this model, the 45-year-old G Series gets its first all-electric variant. So what does the renewed G 580 offer?
Electric Mercedes-Benz G 580 features
Mercedes made its world premiere at the China Motor Show. According to the company, the all-electric G 580 will preserve all the features of the series and carry them into the future. The ladder chassis structure will give the G 580 a new identity.
The electric G 580 is powered by dual electric motors. Total power reaches 432 kW, while maximum torque is 1164 Nm. The 116 kWh capacity battery to be used in the G 580 can receive up to 11 kW of constant charging and 200 kW of fast charging.
According to Mercedes, the 116 kWh battery in the vehicle promises a range of 473 kilometers. The vehicle also has special driving modes such as G-Steering, G-Turn and Offroad Crawling. Switching between these modes will affect the range. The curb weight of the model is 3,85 kg and the gross weight reaches 3,500 kg.
With a top speed of 180 km/h, the electric car can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.7 seconds. However, energy consumption will vary between 27.7-30.4 kWh/100 km.
On the other hand, according to company data, the G 580 has a higher water crossing depth compared to the G-Class with an internal combustion engine. The water passage depth of the G 580 is around 850 millimeters. This is 150 millimeters better than the standard models.
