BMW will introduce its first electric SUV model, the iX3, based on the Neue Klasse platform, in Munich in September 2025. The model draws attention with its driving range of up to 800 kilometers, 400 kW fast charging support and artificial intelligence-based driving technologies.
The electric SUV BMW iX3 will be introduced
BMW announced that the iX3 is currently close to production and that final tests are continuing at the Miramas track in southern France. Pre-production preparations have begun at the new factory in Debrecen. The model’s 800-volt electrical architecture was already known, but it is now clear that it has reached a fast charging capacity of 400 kW.

This capacity was tested with Alpitronic’s HYC400 hypercharger. More than 350 kilometers of range can be regained with a 10-minute charge. The company does not give a clear time for the charging time from 10% to 80%, but predicts that this time could be under 20 minutes.
It was announced that the BMW iX3 50 xDrive version offers a driving range of up to 800 kilometers according to the WLTP standard. This range indicates a driving range of approximately 560 kilometers with a battery charge rate of 10% to 80%. The company also stated that drivers will be able to remotely follow data such as the charging curve via the “My BMW” mobile application.
The new iX3 also supports 400V charging infrastructures. Although this detail is not directly stated, it includes an indirect comparison with Mercedes’ new CLA model, which only supports 800V systems. It is known that Mercedes plans to offer 400V support only in 2026. BMW draws special attention to the iX3’s dual-system compatibility in order to emphasize this difference.
The vehicle is also equipped with AI-based features in charging technologies. These include a system that analyzes the driver’s approach to the vehicle and automatically opens the charging door. In addition, the vehicle can provide up to 3.7 kW of power to external devices with the V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) function.
