Starbase, SpaceX’s headquarters in South Texas, has taken an important step toward officially becoming a city. The project, which Elon Musk announced to the public in March 2021, has become concrete after three years with the broad support of the local people.
Elon Musk is officially establishing his own city
In the public vote, 212 people said “yes” to Starbase becoming a city, while only 6 people opposed this decision. According to the law, 143 votes in favor were sufficient, and this number was easily exceeded. The process is awaiting approval from local governments to be completed.

Starbase, located within the borders of Cameron County, stands out as a region where SpaceX personnel live and work. The urbanization decision will enable the company to gain more local independence in the rocket tests, launch operations and R&D activities it conducts here. With city status, decision-making processes are expected to accelerate, especially in infrastructure projects.
Starbase stands out as a strategic base where SpaceX tests and launches its most advanced spacecraft, including the Starship rocket. While the company’s operational mobility increases thanks to urbanization, a more controlled life and community structure will be established in the region.
Musk stated in his social media post, “Starbase is now a real city.” So what do you think about this? Do you think this project will achieve the desired success? You can easily share your views with us in the comments section below.
