Tesla, the electric vehicle company, is gradually developing a new travel service where its own vehicles will be used as robotaxis, providing an automated experience without the need for a driver. As the name suggests, this service allows passengers to enjoy a fully automated ride. Elon Musk recently announced that the Robotaxi service will be coming to Austin. Here are the details…
Elon Musk Announces Robotaxi Service to Begin in June
Tesla’s new service will be available in the city of Austin starting in June. The billionaire CEO emphasized that from 2026, Tesla car owners will also be able to add their vehicles to the Robotaxi fleet.

These important details were shared by Elon Musk during an earnings call with shareholders. According to TechCrunch, the service will initially launch with Tesla’s own fleet but is expected to expand to more areas in the U.S. over time.
Vehicle owners will be able to add their cars to the fleet without any concerns, similar to Airbnb’s model. However, the key difference is that the cars will be rented out with autopilot.
Before launching the service, Musk mentioned that Tesla needs to resolve any outstanding issues related to billing and vehicle behavior to ensure everything works smoothly.
In October 2024, Tesla introduced the prototype of its driverless vehicle, Cybercab, which has no steering wheel or pedals. Musk stated that this vehicle will form the foundation of Tesla’s future Robotaxi fleet.
However, it’s important to note that Tesla’s current Full Self-Driving (FSD) package is not fully autonomous and still requires driver supervision. Therefore, the success of the planned new service will depend on the maturity of this technology and regulatory approvals.
