In recent years, we’ve seen social media accounts that share the flights of celebrities, with Elon Musk being one of the main targets. Although these accounts initially gained significant popularity, concerns have emerged about the potential risks to celebrities’ safety by publicly disclosing such details. Meta has recently taken a major step in this regard.
Meta has begun suspending accounts that share celebrities’ flights
One of the most well-known figures in this space is Jack Sweeney, who gained fame for his @ElonJet Twitter account. Sweeney shared real-time flight information of celebrities, including Elon Musk. However, after ignoring warnings and legal threats, his account was permanently banned from Twitter at the end of 2022.
After being kicked off Twitter, Sweeney moved to Meta, where he continued to share similar content. However, in recent days, things have taken a turn. Due to growing concerns over privacy and security, Meta has started suspending Instagram and Threads accounts that engage in this type of sharing, including those run by Sweeney.
In his latest post, Sweeney alluded to the day @ElonJet was banned from Twitter by saying, “It feels like December 15, 2022, today.”
Social media is divided on the issue. While some argue that tracking celebrity flights is entertaining, others consider it unethical. However, Meta’s decision to follow Twitter’s lead suggests a growing emphasis on privacy protection.
