Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company xAI made important statements about its artificial intelligence model. It announced that they plan to open-source the chatbot Grok this week. According to the statement, Grok’s source code and training methodology will be shared with everyone.
xAI’s Grok will be open-sourced
Grok is currently only available for testing on Elon Musk’s social media platform X through a Premium subscription. However, xAI thinks that by making the chatbot open source, more developers and researchers will support the model.
It was stated that improvements will be made in Grok’s training thanks to the feedback from users. In fact, this decision adopts the strategy followed by Musk’s other companies. For example, Tesla published all its patents in 2008 to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles.
The open-source release of Grok represents a significant step for competitors like ChatGPT and Google Gemini. Musk, who previously accused OpenAI of monetization ambitions, sued the company in this context.
Elon Musk claims that OpenAI has deviated from its mission by prioritizing profit over transparency. The release of Grok’s code seems to increase the competition between the two organizations.
We will see what contributions the open source community will make to Grok. But xAI hopes it will provide new levels of capability and security to AI.
