SpaceX, the space company of which Elon Musk is CEO, has achieved another revolutionary success. Super Heavy, the first stage booster of Starship, the company’s largest and most powerful rocket, was successfully landed on the launch pad after taking off. Here are the details…
History has been made: Super Heavy is back on the launch pad!
In June, SpaceX successfully completed the fourth test of the Starship spacecraft, part of its goal to carry humanity to the Moon. In that test, Starship’s first stage, Super Heavy, successfully soft-landed on Earth, but the rest of the vehicle fell into the ocean as planned.
Today, SpaceX conducted the fifth test flight of Starship. This flight marked a new milestone for the Starship program. The Super Heavy booster successfully returned to the launch pad shortly after liftoff.
Unlike previous tests, this landing was not on floating platforms in the ocean, but directly on the launch tower. Huge metal arms called “chopsticks” were able to hold the booster. Thus, SpaceX has achieved a significant success in space.
