After more than a decade of loyal service, the Chromecast device is no longer available for purchase in the Google Store. This decision marks the end of an era for the device that revolutionised the way we consume media.
Last September, the company launched a new device, the Google TV Streamer, with superior specifications and an inevitably higher price. With the farewell to Chromecast, the brand will now start promoting this new model.
Chromecast 4K and HD sales have ended
Both 4K and HD versions of Google’s ‘veteran device have been removed from the Google Store list. ‘No longer available,’ the dedicated page reads. It was a predictable move, especially after the devices were moved to a less prominent section of the online store. While it is known that stocks are slowly running out, sales continued until last week.

However, there is still a chance that you can still find some Chromecasts at third-party retailers. These sales channels are expected to run out of stock soon. But of course, sooner or later resources will run out.
The end of Chromecast sales does not mean that the devices currently in use will become unusable. Google has guaranteed software support. The company has promised to release updates, including the Android 14 update.
Chromecast 4K is expected to receive security updates until September 2025. Google will also offer an update guarantee for the HD version until September 2025.
Google TV Streamer costs more than Chromecast 4K. The new device offers higher-performance internal components, which is an important aspect to consider. The device features a MediaTek chipset and more RAM.
These features should make the product last longer than older models. The design of the TV Streamer changes compared to the past. Abandoning the dongle shape, the device looks more like a set-top box.
