Tesla’s electric pickup, the Cybertruck, which was officially unveiled in 2023, had faced concerns about its safety due to its radical design. However, safety tests have shown the opposite. Here are the details:
Tesla Cybertruck Earns Top Marks in Safety Tests
Tesla’s Cybertruck, which stands out due to its angular design, had been the subject of ongoing debates regarding its safety. Experts had raised concerns that its sharp edges and solid exterior could pose a danger to passengers and pedestrians in case of accidents.

However, after independent testing, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) awarded the Tesla Cybertruck a 5-star safety rating. In front collision tests, the Cybertruck scored 5 stars for the driver and 4 stars for the passenger, while it passed side-impact tests with a perfect score.
In rollover tests, the vehicle showed a 12.4% risk of tipping over if it lost control, earning 4 stars for this test.
Equipped with Tesla’s advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), the vehicle met all active safety standards. However, there hasn’t been an assessment yet on how the Cybertruck performs in terms of pedestrian safety.
Concerns about the potential risks of pedestrian impacts due to the vehicle’s hard lines and sharp edges remain, and NHTSA is expected to establish new criteria for pedestrian safety in the future.
