Meta has officially announced the most comprehensive redesign package for its flagship app in recent years. Having failed to achieve the expected return on investment from its Metaverse projects, the company is now focusing back on social interaction. The upcoming Facebook update aims to win back young users by transforming the platform into something akin to an “Instagram hybrid.”
What’s changing with the Facebook update?
According to details shared by the company on Tuesday, the app’s usage habits are fundamentally changing. The most notable innovation is the double-tap-to-like feature, familiar from Instagram. Users can now double-tap images in their feed to like them. Photos will also be presented in a standard grid layout, providing a full-screen, immersive experience when clicked.

Marketplace, the area where Generation Z is most active on Facebook, is getting rid of hidden menus. This section, which is expected to attract significant interest from young people according to 2025 data, will be moved to the main navigation bar at the bottom of the app, alongside the Reels and Friends tabs.
The innovations aren’t limited to the interface. User profiles are getting a more detailed display of hobbies and interests. One of the most requested features has finally arrived: Now, when you change your profile picture or cover image, you’ll decide whether or not this changes appear in your News Feed. This will help prevent unwanted notifications.
