Rumors are growing in the gaming world that a remaster for Fallout 3 is being developed. Rumors suggest this project is currently in active development. According to information reported by Video Games Chronicle (VGC), this project will be similar to the remaster applied to The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. This claim suggests that Bethesda is working on one of the projects it is working on.
Todd Howard Reveals: Elder Scrolls 6, Fallout 76, and a Surprise Project
Bethesda Director Todd Howard refrained from making a definitive statement on the matter in a new interview with GQ magazine. Howard confirmed that the company is working on Elder Scrolls 6 and Fallout 76. He also stated that “hundreds of people are currently working on Fallout” and that they are doing “some other things.” According to VGC, the “other things” Howard mentioned include a Fallout 3 remaster project.

During the interview, Todd Howard also spoke specifically about Fallout 3, which was released in 2008. Howard stated that the game had “the best opening he’s ever worked on” and had a “very gritty tone.” Speaking about the overall tone of the Fallout series, the director said that the series can “be like a B-movie one moment and a life-or-death trauma the next.” Howard emphasized the character-driven mission structure, saying, “I think the best missions are about the characters you meet: What did they do to survive, and why? How do you feel about that?”
While Howard remains silent on current plans, old legal documents offer some clues. Leaked Xbox documents from 2023 revealed that the company was planning an ambitious release schedule that included The Elder Scrolls 6 and a Fallout 3 remaster. While that schedule didn’t go as planned, the leak remains a beacon of hope for Fallout 3 fans.
There has been no official confirmation from Bethesda yet. The prospect of a remaster for a 2008 game for modern systems is exciting. So, what do you think about a possible Fallout 3 Remaster announcement?
