Ford has temporarily suspended sales of its electric SUV model, the Mustang Mach-E, worldwide. The company’s decision is based on a serious fault detected in the vehicles’ door lock system. More than 300,000 vehicles produced between 2021 and 2025 are likely to be affected by this fault.
Ford is suspending sales of the Mustang Mach-E
According to Ford’s technical statement, if the 12-volt auxiliary battery is unexpectedly discharged while the vehicle is off, especially if the voltage level drops below 8.4, the electronic latches of the front doors maintain their final positions.

In this case, even if the door is mechanically closed, it may not remain openable from the outside. Since there is no mechanical locking system in the rear doors, the risk of passengers inside not being able to get out is even greater. This situation creates a problem that directly affects life safety, especially in emergency situations.
Ford announced that it is working on a software update to fix this fault and that this update will be ready in the third quarter of 2025. However, the problem cannot be solved by an over-the-air update.
Owners will need to take their vehicles to authorized dealers to have their powertrain and diagnostic modules reprogrammed. In the meantime, Ford dealers have been instructed to immediately stop deliveries and test drives of Mach-E vehicles affected by this fault.
