Fortnite is going full galactic. On May 2, Epic Games launches its most ambitious Star Wars crossover yet—complete with a themed Battle Royale season, new playable characters, and the in-game premiere of a Disney+ series. Yes, for the first time ever, a Disney+ show will debut inside a video game before landing on the streaming platform.
Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld premieres first in Fortnite
The spotlight of this crossover is Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld, an animated anthology series from Lucasfilm Animation. Instead of waiting for its Disney+ debut on May 4, fans can watch the first two episodes on a special Star Wars Watch Party island built entirely in Unreal Editor for Fortnite.
The island goes live at 10am ET on May 2 and features not only a full screening theater but interactive gameplay too. Players can grab lightsabers and blasters to fend off waves of Stormtroopers, turning passive viewing into a full-blown Star Wars mission.
New Fortnite season introduces Darth Jar Jar, Palpatine, and more
The new season, titled Fortnite: Galactic Battle, will bring a flood of Star Wars content into Battle Royale. Players can suit up as Darth Jar Jar or Emperor Palpatine, and hop into iconic ships like X-wings and TIE Fighters. New weekly content drops will build toward a major live finale called Death Star Sabotage.
It’s not just cosmetics and cameos—Epic is pushing immersive storytelling into new territory by blending narrative, gameplay, and community events in real-time.
Disney+ and Epic Games accounts can now be linked
Starting now, players can link their Epic Games and MyDisney accounts to unlock a First Order Stormtrooper outfit. This is the first step in a larger effort by Disney and Epic to build a connected digital ecosystem where fans can move freely between Fortnite and Disney properties.
More linked-account benefits are on the way, and this move lays the groundwork for the Disney universe inside Fortnite that both companies teased earlier this year.
Star Wars expands its gaming reach inside Fortnite
“Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld” is the third installment in Lucasfilm’s recent anthology slate, following Tales of the Jedi (2022) and Tales of the Empire (2024). This time, the series dives into the Star Wars underworld through the eyes of two iconic villains: Asajj Ventress and Cad Bane.
Epic and Disney’s decision to debut this series in Fortnite marks a major milestone in how franchises are distributed—and how games are becoming platforms for more than just play.
A new era of immersive fandom begins
Disney and Epic aren’t just teaming up for a marketing stunt—they’re prototyping the future of digital entertainment. The Star Wars x Fortnite season is a fully integrated, playable celebration that redefines how games, shows, and fandoms can collide.
Expect more premieres. More integrations. And way more lightsabers.
