Google Maps is an important tool that makes life easier by helping users get directions, check traffic conditions, and discover nearby places. While it serves as a great guide, especially when traveling to unfamiliar locations, there are instances when it may not reflect real-time changes.
In India, Google Maps directed a vehicle to a bridge that no longer had an exit, resulting in a tragic accident
As mentioned earlier, while Google Maps is a very useful app, it sometimes fails to detect real-time changes. A tragic example of this occurred in India. The app directed a vehicle with three people inside to a bridge over the Ramganga River that had been destroyed in a flood months earlier and was under reconstruction.
Unfortunately, the driver didn’t realize until the last moment that the bridge was incomplete. The fact that the incident occurred at night also significantly affected the driver’s visibility. As a result, the car fell from the bridge, and all three people inside lost their lives.
Investigations revealed that the victims had been using Google Maps shortly before the crash. However, the victims’ relatives claimed that there were no warning signs at the entrance of the bridge to alert drivers. They also expressed their frustration, stating that Google’s mapping system had directed the victims incorrectly.
Looking at the details shared, we can say that Google Maps isn’t entirely to blame for the incident. The lack of any warning signs at the entrance of the bridge is a serious safety issue. Additionally, Google Maps guiding drivers as if there were no issues on the bridge led to the tragic outcome.
