Qualcomm is gearing up to solidify its leadership in mobile processors. While the company is currently busy with the launch of the 8 Gen 4, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is expected to be released in early 2026. In this context, Samsung could set a milestone with the Galaxy S26 Ultra.
Galaxy S26 Ultra with Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is Coming!
Leaks from China indicate that the new chip will mark a significant leap in performance. The most notable feature of the 8 Gen 5 is that it will be produced using TSMC’s 3nm process node, known as N3P. This new technology allows for higher clock speeds and greater power efficiency.
According to the leaks, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 will maintain a 2+6 core architecture. However, the performance cores can reach up to 5 GHz, while the efficiency cores can go up to 4 GHz. These figures suggest nearly a 30% performance increase compared to previous generations.
It is noted that TSMC’s 3nm technology plays a crucial role in this performance boost. In the past, Qualcomm has partnered with both TSMC and Samsung Foundry for chip production. However, issues such as overheating in Samsung’s chips led Qualcomm to pivot towards TSMC.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is also expected to debut with the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra. It remains to be seen whether Samsung can catch up to TSMC in terms of 3nm technology.
Let’s also remember that the Galaxy S25 Ultra will feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. This means that the Galaxy S25 Ultra, equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip, has successfully outperformed the iPhone 16 Pro in performance tests.
