Samsung Display, Samsung’s display manufacturing arm, is ushering in a brand new era for foldable OLED panels. The company announced that it has branded its most innovative and advanced foldable displays to date as MONTFLEX. This move demonstrates Samsung’s commitment to not only developing technology but also setting standards in this field. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 could change the fate of the industry.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 may launch with MONTFLEX
The name MONTFLEX derives from the French word mont, meaning mountain. Samsung states that this naming symbolizes the pinnacle of innovation and engineering in foldable display technology. This new display brand, eagerly anticipated by the tech world, will be officially unveiled at an event to be held at the Korea Display Industry Expo (K-Display 2025) on August 7th.
What will MONTFLEX offer?
So, what concrete improvements does MONTFLEX technology offer? Samsung explains that each letter in the word MONT represents a key strength of its next-generation foldable displays:
- M (Mechanically durable): A structure that is much more mechanically durable and offers increased folding reliability.
- O (Opto-mechanically flat): An optically smooth and vibrant display experience with minimal fold marks (creases).
- N (Narrow bezels): Ultra-thin bezels for a more immersive display.
- T (Thin & light): A noticeably thin and lightweight panel that enhances the device’s overall portability.
For users, all these technical improvements translate to a more comfortable folding experience, a slimmer profile that fits more easily into a pocket, and a tactile experience much closer to the feel of a traditional glass display.
While not yet officially confirmed, these high-end displays, branded MONTFLEX, are likely to be featured in the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8, expected to be released next year.
With this announcement, Samsung also highlighted the progress it has made in foldable display technology. This journey, which began with the significant fold marks and durability issues of the first Galaxy Fold models and now features panels used in the Galaxy Z Fold 7 that offer durability up to 500,000 folds, reaches a new peak with MONTFLEX. This new brand appears poised to change the course of competition in the foldable phone market.
